WHO'S DOROTHY ?

Calderdale Friends of Dorothy
We are an inclusive group of older (over 50yrs) lesbians who live, or have roots in, the Valley of Calderdale. We want to raise awareness of the issues facing us as we age.
We recognise that many of the concerns we discuss and face are very similar to the older general population but some things are specific to our community- an example of this is: our life stories/histories might involve the challenge of not being accepted by our birth families. We have had the strength to develop our own networks and families of choice to support us and bring us a sense of community. We have faced a lifetime of discrimination of varying degrees and some of us might choose not to be “out” in some aspects of our lives.
Our mission is to explore, highlight and promote a range of options for our community in this area with a focus on addressing loneliness & isolation. We are particularly looking at health, social care, housing & social networks.
