Dorothy is particularly interested in maintaining good health & wellness as we get older. To that end, we are encouraging older lesbians to meet up and get involved, if they wish, in a range of activities that promote good physical & mental health.
Dorothy recognises that many of us struggle with chronic, long term conditions and we hope to be able to share our skills and knowledge to provide support for each other & appropriately signpost people to services as necessary. We are developing our knowledge of services locally and nationally to share with our community in order to facilitate this. We are networking with voluntary & statutory agencies who might be able to help. We are particularly grateful to Voluntary Action Calderdale who have been of huge assistance in this area.
Dorothy is aware that good mental health is significant for us all. We all experience highs and lows with our mental health and having support around us can be helpful in managing any difficulties. Dorothy is keen to connect our members and focus on building support networks within our community. Keep an eye out for our regular meet-ups and meetings and any projects you may like to get involved in.
We are networking with key agencies to increase their awareness of our community and we are hoping to work with local care homes to facilitate a “silver pride” event.
We can offer training to health, care & housing providers to increase their awareness of our specific needs.
We believe all our meetups & projects are a low key but effective way of helping with loneliness and social isolation as well as creating networks and friendships which nurture us through all our lives.
As you get older, you don’t get wiser, you get irritable…
